During a funeral, it is tradition in Japanese culture to throw salt over oneself as a cleansing act. Japanese artist Motoi Yamammoto has found a more interesting way of utilizing this simple ingredient. Motoi's sister passed away at a young age and from this tragedy stemmed the idea of using salt in his work, creating what he calls labyrinths and mazes. The large-scale installations feature incredible detail and intricate patterns.
