The above picture might look like a colorful painting, but it is actually a 168 sq. ft. kitchen made of 30 million beads over the course of 5 years.
Liza Lou's "Kitchen" was exhibited at the New Museum of Contemporary Art from 1991 - 1996. The work is described as being "the ultimate homage to the domestic". The tables, walls, dishes, and even the food are all made of glass beads.

The attention to detail, and the patience it must have taken to create something of this scale is utterly mind blowing. Since creating "Kitchen", Lou has continued to work with beads, creating new pieces that are more minimalistic, but no less beautiful.
