Forever Bicycles Installation in Toronto
Ai Weiwei, a Chinese artist and activist, stunned Toronto this weekend with a new Forever Bicycles installation.
WeiWei stacked 3,144 bicycles 100 feet in length and 30 feet tall in Toronto's Nathan Phillips Square for this year's all-night contemporary art festival called Scotiabank Nuit Blanche. This was both the first time the installation was available for viewing in an open, public space and the most bikes Ai had ever used to date.
The thousands of identical stainless steel bikes were shipped over the Pacific ocean in special containers and assembled on-site. Visitors were allowed to walk between the maze-like space and snap picture of the amazing structure.
